The Architecture of EmptyOver a one year period, Toronto photographers Shane Fester and Kevin Morris spent several weeks, hundreds of kilometres, and countless rolls of film taking in a different perspective of Southern Ontario. Photographing at a time when the emptiness of a space defines its physical presence, Fester and Morris examined the environment around them through a lens of voyeurism based on their collective experience in each location. Part architectural commentary, part economic narrative, the audience is invited into the spaces to acknowledge and explore the significant absence of human presence. In this way, the public will gain a new perspective on pedestrian public spaces which – normally – would be filled with an almost overwhelming collection of physical and sense-based activities, norms, and behaviours. Exhibited from May 1 to 31, 2013 at Evergreen Brick Works as part of the 2013 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.
